Automatic Powerful Sucking Male Masturbator
During a tumultuous time for our sex lives, male masturbators came through, but their popularity endures far beyond app outages. From fleshlight to rechargeable remote control masturbation sleeves, here’s everything to know about so-called “strokers”
Men’s sex toys were one of a handful of industries that have thrived over the last couple of years, and among vibrating cock rings, massagers butt plugs and dildos, the most popular of the lot is the male masturbatory. While couples’ toys kept those in relationships entertained and prostate massagers provided a resource for locked down experimentation, the masturbator (AKA stroker/fleshlight) is the toy that most closely replicated the sex lives many were missing out on, and beyond pandemics, they continue to elevate solo play.
Essentially a sleeve that you slip your penis into in place of getting plain-old handsy, a male masturbator is a man’s best bet at replicating the feeling of penetration in just his own company. Taking the form of everything from discreet-looking eggs with nodules to tease your nerve endings to Fleshlights with realistic-looking vulvas to rechargeable vibrating vessels that’ll actually provide feedback and stamina training, warm apple pie, these ain’t.
However deep you’d like to delve into the world of hands-free pleasure, there’s a male masturbator for you, which makes buying one online more complicated than you might expect. That’s why we called on sex and relationship SexTherapist Laura Vera, an a sex toy expert to answer some key questions about male masturbators before you invest.
Should you opt for a manual or vibrating male masturbator?
“It is completely preference-dependent and both offer different experiences,” says Laura. “For a sensation that is more similar to penetrative sex, then a manual masturbator is more likely to offer you that and you can also use them with different attachments so they can be used hands-free. A male vibrator with different vibration modes will offer you new sensations that are more difficult to achieve without a sex toy.”
How does an egg work?
“An egg is made of a very stretchy material which is worn over the penis with lube applied on the inside,” says Laura, “a bit like the shape of a condom, but much thicker and stretchier in texture. It can create different sensations for masturbation and hand stimulation, for solo play or partnered foreplay. They come in an egg shape, which makes them ideal for travel and convenience as they’re discreet and take up very little room.”
How do male masturbators compare to the real thing?
“It’s not necessarily about comparing it to ‘the real thing’, more about changing and mixing up your solo play and pleasure,” says Laura. “Many male masturbators can create a similar physical sensation to penetrative sex with a partner. Being made of silicone, you can use lubricant and some even warm up to simulate body temperature. But the reality is that a sex toy can help fill the gap while you are not having physical partnered sex – partnered sex is always going to be a different sexual experience.”
